When is a guardianship necessary?

A guardianship is necessary when somebody is found to lack capacity and they are vulnerable to being exploited by another person. There also has to be no other less restrictive alternative, such as a trust. If there’s a lesser restrictive alternative, the guardianship will not be set up by the court system.
