Daytona Beach Burn Injury Lawyer

Burns are among the most common household injuries, especially in children. Burns are characterized by severe skin damage in which many of the affected cells die. Depending on the cause and degree of injury, most people can recover from burns without serious health consequences. More serious burns require immediate emergency medical care to prevent complications and death.

Bundza & Rodriguez, P.A., Our Daytona Beach burn injury lawyers have successfully represented many clients who have suffered burn injuries or have lost a loved one as a result of a house fire, explosion chemical fire, or other accident causing a burn injury.

There are three types of burns:

  • First-degree burns damage only the outer layer of skin. Characterized by red, sensitive areas that blanch to the touch. Minimal tissue damage involving the epidermis. Redness, swelling, peeling skin. Burn can be soaked in cool water and wrapped with a sterile bandage. Typically heal without further treatment.
  • Second-degree burns damage the outer layer and the layer underneath. Affect both the epidermis (outer layer) and under layer of skin. The burns blister and hair follicles and sweat glands are commonly affected. A cool mist bandage or clean cloth can be used. Do not apply ointments. Elevate the area and protect it from pressure. Steps should be taken to prevent shock.
  • Third-degree burns damage or destroy the deepest layer of skin and tissues underneath. Cause charred skin and affect the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Healing is slow and skin and other structure may be destroyed. Extensive scarring is common. A cool mist bandage or clean cloth can be used. Do not apply ointments. Elevate the area and protect it from pressure. Steps should be taken to prevent shock.
  • Fourth-degree burns, also called full thickness burns. A fourth-degree burn affects tendons, bones, ligaments and muscles. Nerves are destroyed. These burns typically occur due to prolonged exposure to fire or as the result of an electrical injury. These burns are often life threatening and may require amputation. Long-term disability and disfigurement are common.

Burns can cause swelling, blistering, scarring and, in serious cases, shock and even death. They also can lead to infections because they damage your skin’s protective barrier. Treatment for burns depends on the cause of the burn, how deep it is, and how much of the body it covers. Antibiotic creams can prevent or treat infections. For more serious burns, treatment may be needed to clean the wound, replace the skin, and make sure the patient has enough fluids and nutrition.

Burns are some of the most significant injuries a person can suffer. The unique and devastating nature of burns requires highly specialized medical care to address the needs of those who have been burned. Burn care is very expensive and issues such as physical therapy may go on for years. The financial challenges burn victims face can seriously impact their lives far into the future.

One additional differentiating factor of burns is the fact that they can continue to create health difficulties for years to come. Infection and other issues can plague a burn victim long after the original injury has healed.

Severe burn injuries can result from traumatic accidents, such as a household fire. However, they can also result from negligent use of household products. We have comprehensive knowledge and tactics for pursuing rightful compensation in all forms of burn injury accidents, such as those involving:

  • Electrocution
  • Construction accidents
  • Home fires
  • Furnace explosions
  • Gunpowder injuries
  • Hair appliances, such as curling irons, hair dryers, and straightening irons
  • Excessive exposure to household chemicals and cleaners
  • Fireworks
